Foundation Purchases Land in Bellevue for Veterans Project

December 20, 2024

The 50 Mile March Foundation has purchased 7 acres of property in Bellevue as part of its effort to establish the Community of Hope campus.

The project aims to provide essential resources, shelter and support services to veterans and their families in the Greater Omaha area. The Community of Hope campus represents the Foundation’s commitment serving those who serve for us.

The 50 Mile March Foundation’s mission is to empower veterans facing mental health challenges and homelessness by fostering a community of hope and relentless support. Through its signature annual ruck march, the Foundation raises awareness, funds, and resources to support the veteran community in the Omaha metro area.

“This is a significant step forward in our mission to end veteran homelessness and increase availability of mental health services in the area,” said Brianne Schuler, executive director of the 50 Mile March Foundation. “We believe the Community of Hope will be a beacon for individuals who need a hand up, not a handout, and we are excited to begin this journey within the Sarpy County community.”

The Community of Hope vision includes:

● 20,000 sq. ft. community center
● Access to mental health, addiction recovery and employment services
● Programs focused on life skills and self-sufficiency
● Dedicated spaces for community partnerships and outreach initiatives
● Transitional housing for veterans and families

The purchase was made possible thanks to the support of donors, partners and the
dedication of 50 Mile March participants, who have worked to raise funds and awareness through their annual 50-mile journey.

“Five years ago, this started with just one step; one foot in front of the other. Our vision resonated with so many in our community. This has become more than just a ruck march, it is a movement to serve our veterans. We are grateful to all who have supported us through the many
miles in our journey,” said co-founder Jay Miralles.
