The Dundee Merchants Association and Dundee Memorial Park Neighborhood are presenting the 2025 Dundee Day street festival on Underwood Avenue this Saturday, August 23. The event, which started in the 1950s, features the 5K Dundee Dash, Troop 100 pancake breakfast, a free barre and yoga class, live music and a street market featuring almost 150 vendors. Admission is free.
The Kim Foundation is presenting the 24th annual A Night Out fundraising event on September 4 at The Astro in La Vista at 6 p.m. Stand-up comedian Anjelah Johnson-Reyes will headline the event. The event will also include local and national artists exploring the realities of mental health, common misconceptions and how we care for ourselves and others. Habitat for Humanity of Omaha announced that its 19th Annual Brew Haha event will move to a brand-new scenic location – Heartwood Park at 301 South 145th Street within Heartwood Preserve. The event, which takes place from 5 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, September 5, features local breweries and eateries as well as live music. Proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity of Omaha. This year’s honorary chairs are Andy and Collette Lozier. Andy is CEO of the Lozier Corporation, while Collette is a program officer focused on housing initiatives at the Lozier Foundation. Both have worked closely with Habitat Omaha on neighborhood revitalization.
On August 14, an affordable house designed by Metro Community College students was moved from the Construction Education Center on the Fort Omaha Campus to the lot it was designed for in the Miller Park Neighborhood. The project was completed in partnership with the Holy Name Housing Corporation, a nonprofit which provides quality affordable housing options and homeownership education in the Omaha metro area.
YouTurn, a north Omaha nonprofit violence prevention organization, announced plans to move from 34th & Ames Avenue into a larger, 7,300 sq. ft. space near 32nd & Dodge Street. The move will make space for the planned North High School football stadium and upgrades to the Butler Gast YMCA.

Omaha Community Foundation is partnering with the Claire M. Hubbard Foundation to facilitate a grant program for Kindergarten through 6th Grade public school teachers across the state: The Ignite STEM: Hubbard Classroom Grant. This grant provides up to $500 to help teachers promote STEM education, improve the classroom experience and purchase supplies or training.
The Nonprofit Association of the Midlands is accepting nominations for the 2025 Catalyst Award until tomorrow, August 15. The NAM Catalyst Award recognizes a nonprofit organization that is driving excellence and innovation. It is presented at the Nonprofit Summit of the Midlands on November 6.
Flatwater Free Press is hosting Community Conversations: Maternal Health in Omaha, a free event, which brings together leaders in the health and public service to discuss maternal and infant health in Douglas County. The event takes place at the Benson Theatre on Thursday, August 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. and is sponsored by the Omaha Community Foundation.
CenterPointe is now offering two training programs in Omaha: Integrated Peer Support Training, which prepares attendees to become a Certified Peer Support Specialist, as well as The CenterPointe Person-Centered Trauma-Informed De-Escalation Training, which teaches staff how to reduce tension and avoid crises by using a person-centered and trauma-informed approach in their daily interactions. The first session for the Integrated Peer Support Training takes place October 6 through 10. The De-Escalation Training is scheduled on demand.
The Salvation Army disaster relief crew was at the River View Park Resort & Marina in Blair on Sunday to assist after Saturday’s destructive thunderstorm. The charity served breakfast to storm victims and first responders and also gave out free flood clean-up kits.

Omaha by Design is presenting its annual Open Omaha event. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, local businesses, historic landmarks, sacred sites, creative spaces, and other venues all around Omaha will open their doors for the public to get an inside look. This year, the event features 44 different locations, including the CHI Health Center, HDR, KIOS Omaha Public Radio, Omaha Central High School, and many more local landmarks. Admission at all locations is free.
On August 1, the City of Omaha and Front Porch Investments announced a $40 million bond tied to the property tax increases from the streetcar project which will be used to add an estimated 1,900 affordable homes to the urban core. Mayor John Ewing Jr. said an anonymous donor has offered to buy the bond, allowing the $40 million to be allocated to Front Porch Investments, who in turn will distribute money to affordable housing developments within a 770-block area around the streetcar route. If approved, this plan would allow related housing development to start as early as next year, rather than around 2031, as previously planned.
The North Omaha Visitor’s Center, a nonprofit organization and venue aiming to cultivate tourism and promote the rich history, culture and economic vibrancy of north Omaha, held a soft opening on August 1. The hub for both tourists and locals will feature a gallery, tours and events, as well as a coffee shop and gift shop when it opens to the public in September.
Mayor John Ewing Jr. has proclaimed August 9, 2025 to be Nebraska Humane Society Day in honor of the nonprofit’s 150th anniversary. The NHS is the fifth oldest humane society in the United States
