Central Portion of Eppley Terminal Closes Today

February 17, 2025

The next phase of Eppley Airfield construction begins this morning. The entire central portion of the terminal, including Level 2, will close, and the terminal will split in half to enable construction of the new central pavilion, a key component of the Build OMA Terminal Modernization Program.

After the terminal split, Eppley will operate with two terminals – the north terminal and the south terminal. Each airline’s services including ticketing, gates and baggage claims are located within its respective terminal. It will be important for travelers to know which terminal their airline operates from before arriving to the airport.

The north terminal will house Southwest, United and Allegiant airlines. The south will have American, Delta, Alaska and Frontier airlines.

During this phase of construction, travelers who need to navigate between the south and north terminals will use the outdoor terminal drive walkways and ground level of the south garage. Wayfinding signs will help passengers navigate around the closed areas.

“We know the terminal split will have one of the largest construction impacts on the traveling public at Eppley Airfield. As we continue to build a better travel experience, we appreciate the continued patience of our traveling public,” said Dave Roth, Chief Executive Officer of the Omaha Airport Authority.

The terminal expansion will increase building space by 72 percent from 375,000 sq. ft. to approximately 646,000 sq. ft. The new terminal will feature a centralized TSA security checkpoint, new restaurants and retailers after security, two gates capable of international flights and expanded restrooms.

Eppley served more than 5.2 million passengers in 2024 and is the busiest airport in Nebraska or Iowa. Seven airlines provide approximately 70 departures per day to 33 nonstop destinations from Omaha.
