Omaha Girls Rock, an organization which has empowered youth through music education since 2011, has joined The Bay, another youth-focused organization with programming, education opportunities and community centers in Omaha and Lincoln. As part of this transition, Sara Bertuldo, OGR’s longtime operations manager, has joined The Bay’s team as the Workforce Education & OGR Program Manager. Earlier this year, The Bay partnered with the City of Omaha and the Omaha Parks Foundation to revitalize the Benson Community Center, installing a skatepark in the building’s gymnasium.
For the first time ever, the Men’s College World Series will offer Sensory Kits thanks to Autism Action Partnership. Meant to help those with sensory sensitivities enjoy the ballgames, each kit includes items like noise-canceling headphones, sunglasses, fidgets a visual timer and more. The CWS staff will maintain, clean, restock and check out the kits during the tournament.
Flatwater Free Press is kicking off a new panel series tonight (June 12) called Community Conversations. Tonight’s event will be a discussion about access to mental health in Omaha: challenges, success stories and opportunities to improve a vital system. Panelists represent public health, homelessness services, treatment providers in communities of color and families of people with severe and persistent mental illness. The Community Conversations series is sponsored by Omaha Community Foundation.
The PD Well Foundation is a newly established 501(c)3 whose mission is to support and work with Heartland Neurological to provide therapy, wellness, education and community to transform the lives of individuals living with Parkinson’s Disease and their caregivers. PD Well Foundation has established an endowment account that will provide ongoing support and stability for the organization. After coming to Omaha for the Reignite2Unite Development Symposium, the Downing Brothers – twins, firefighters and community-centric property developers featured on HGTV’s “Double Down” – said they plan to return to Omaha and collaborate with the Omaha Municipal Land Bank on a still-to-be-determined affordable housing project.
